East Las Vegas Community Hero Program
New to East Las Vegas, Touchstone Living wanted to get to know more about what makes this side of town special. When we started asking, one of the things we kept hearing was "its people". So, we invited East Las Vegas locals to tell us about some of the remarkable people making a difference in their community. We heard so many great stories about dedicated individuals, contributing to a stronger more vibrant community that we decided to spotlight them and share their stories with everyone.
We are excited to announce the winners of our East Las Vegas Community Hero Program! Prizes were awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Let’s meet our winners!
First Place Winners are Vanessa Barreat and Raul Martinez- Vanessa Barreat and her husband, Raul Martinez, deeply love the East Las Vegas Community. Their habit of supporting projects that create a positive impact on the lives of others is one reason the couple was nominated for the East Las Vegas Community Hero Award. Because their restaurant in the Las Vegas Commercial Center, La Vecindad®, has been embraced by so many in the neighborhood, Vanessa and Raul feel it is essential to support local events and fundraisers, especially those that benefit children. The couple often provides food and monetary donations at events that help provide local children with school supplies, backpacks, shoes and other necessities. Vanessa and Raul also assist the Cambridge Recreation Center in support of celebrations important in the Spanish culture, such as the Dia de los Muertos celebrations in the Fall. What Vanessa likes most about East Las Vegas is the sense of community, the people who live there, and the willingness among residents to help others.
